There are some people who walk into your life and instantly take up space in your heart.

Lynda Butlier — Linda with a Y — was one of those rare souls.

Born and raised in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, she carried that unmistakable Cape Breton charm: quick wit, warmth, and a sense of humour that could crack open even the hardest of days. She was beautiful inside and out, with a smile that could light up a room faster than you could say hoo-ha — one of her favorite words. And yes, she had another choice word she loved, and if she thought you were one… trust me, you knew it.

Lynda loved fiercely and lived passionately. Her cat Gypsy was her heart. Her love for Star Wars, anything Queen, and the voice of Freddie Mercury was legendary. Music, stories, and laughter shaped her world — and she shared that joy with everyone lucky enough to cross her path.

A gifted and graceful belly dancer, Linda moved with a presence that was pure magic. She wasn’t just talented — she was captivating. Her dance sisters adored her, not only for her artistry but for the spirit she brought into every room, every class, every performance.

Lynda was also known — and lovingly teased — for her storytelling skills. What many of us might have wrapped up in five sentences… Lynda could spin into a thirty-minute saga, complete with side characters, background details, and the occasional dramatic reenactment. And yet, none of us would have wanted it any other way. Listening to her stories was part of loving her; we were invested, entertained, and always left smiling. Our saying about it? ..”And to make a short story longer”…..

She adored reading, fashion, clothing, and all things beautiful — fitting, because she herself was beauty embodied. She had a radiance about her, the kind that didn’t fade, the kind you remember long after she leaves a room.

For those in the pagan community, her dance community, and all the friends who were blessed to call her their own — the loss of Lynda is felt deeply.

To the world she was Linda with a Y. To those who truly knew her, she was our Snow White — pure heart, gentle spirit, enchanting presence and fierce friend

Lynda, your light, your laughter, and your stories will continue to echo in all of us.

You are missed more than words can ever say.
