Valerie, Val, Valleee, Sparky, Friend, Sister, Activist, Artist, Groupie – However you knew her it was all her. Many things to many people. Val was a tireless crusader for animal rights. From the tigers to the dolphins and whales, they had her heart. She was much more the artist than even she gave herself credit for and her art reflected her love of animals, our planet and the magick that she could see and feel. When someone else felt strongly, so did Val. Music had been her connection to her father and became her safe haven. When an artist created something that came from the heart, Val’s heart was touched.
Val spent many hours and days unsure and not confident about herself, but she always tried to be a friend. The days she would let go and see and feel the magick of the world were beautiful and unique. She feared for the world, despised cruelty and hatred and sometimes, was maybe just a bit spontaneous and naughty! So many memories of rock hounding, and drumming and walks in the woods.
Val’s laughter echoed through the forest at AEPG, through the building at “Pagan Place”, and through our hearts. (I still cannot play Cards Against Humanity without hearing her ‘splitting a gut’).
Val’s influence on children in our pagan community was quiet, but still shines. She had patience and endless love for many of the younger ones in our community, and that has passed to the next generation. Our youngest granddaughter shares her name, they never met but I know Val is egging her on from the Summerlands, I see it in the the flash of her eyes when she’s being naughty!
Always remembered, always our Val.
